Donald 70, died at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born the son of the late James DeWitt and Dora Ritter DeWitt.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Jackson DeWitt of the home; a daughter, Jane Westmoreland and husband Patrick of Monroe, NC; a son, Jimmy DeWitt and fiancé Catherine Diaz of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren, Troy Westmoreland and Alec Westmoreland; two brothers, Marion L. DeWitt of Tucson, AZ and Glen R. DeWitt of Perry, IL; six sisters, Elizabeth Peacock of Largo, FL, Grace Childers of Clearwater, FL, Ora Mae Griggs and husband Marion of Clearwater, FL, Shirley Myers and husband Harley of Perry, IL, Vera Cooper and husband Roy of Peoria, IL, and Alice Phillips of Melbourne, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, James DeWitt and Niles Robert DeWitt preceded him in death.
Mr. DeWitt was a member of Long Leaf Baptist Church. He was a past deacon, choir member, and member of the Jim Coates Sunday School Class. He participated in the Senior Games, and bowling in the Senior League at Cardinal Lanes. He was a member of Young at Heart, and enjoyed playing golf, pitching horseshoes, and working in his vegetable and flower gardens.
He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Marine Corps, and was a freight train conductor having been employed with CSX Railroad for twenty-eight years.
