Mary Ann Bibby was the first daughter of Bailey N. Bibby and Martha Ann Acrey. [Note: I am not sure of the spelling of Martha’s maiden name. I have seen it spelled a variety of ways including Akery,Acre and Acree.]

In the 1860 U. S. Census [Southern Division, Macon, Alabama; Roll: M653_14; Page: 735;] the family was in Macon County, Alabama. Mary Ann was seven years old. The other members of the family were B. N. Bibby age 32, Martha A. Bibby age 28, and Almedia Bibby age 3. Bailey was a mechanic. They lived near Martha’s family.

Bailey joined the Confederate Army on 1 July 1861 and was killed at Gettysburg, PA in July 1863. [ancestry.com; Historical Data Systems, comp. U.S., Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles, 1861-1865 ]

Martha and the children moved to Chambers County and on January 2, 1866, Martha married Columbus Washington Looser. The Looser (Loosier) family lived near Bailey’s uncle, Eli A. Bibby. [ancestry.com; Alabama, Select Marriages, 1816-1942 1290837 V. 4-5]

In the 1870 U. S. Census, the family was in Milltown, Chambers County, Alabama. It included Columbus Looser, Martha, Mary A who was sixteen, and Rebecca. There was also a two year old brother Joseph Looser. [1870; Census Place: Milltown, Chambers, Alabama; Roll: M593_6; Page: 44A; Image: 136528; Family History Library Film: 545505]
On January 19, 1871 Mary Ann married John Joseph Bishop in Chambers County [ancestry.com; Alabama Marriage Collection, 1800-1969; Source information: Jordan Dodd, Liahona Research]

On June 16 1880 [Milltown, Chambers, Alabama; Roll: 5; Family History Film: 1254005; Page: 31C; Enumeration District: 017; Image: 0272]. Mary Ann is listed as Molly. The children included Dora age 6 and Jamie [Mary Jane] age 6 months.

On June 22, 1900, [Ancestry.com. 1900; Census Place: Milltown, Chambers, Alabama; Roll: 6; Page: 16B; Enumeration District: 0004; FHL microfilm: 1240006]. Mary is listed again as Mollie A. (or Mallie). She was the mother of five children but only three were living in 1900. The children in the family were Dora age 25, Jane [Mary Jane] age 20 and Ellen [Martha Ellen] age 15. Her sister, Allie Rebecca’s family, lived two families away.
