Randall Bruce Richmond, 40, 800 W. Mill St., Carbondale, died at his home on Friday, May 20, 1983, from complications from an extended illness.

Prior to his illness, Mr. Richmond lived in New York City and worked as a graphic designer, prominent in the book jacket field. He also was involved in the performing arts, once acting as the narrator in an Off-Broadway production. He most recently worked as a freelance writer in Carbondale.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro.

He was born Oct. 28, 1942, in Herrin, to Bruce and LaCleeta Patterson Richmond. His father, of Murphysboro, is the Democratic Illinois state representative of the 58th legislative district.

Mr. Richmond was a graduate of Murphysboro Township High School with the Class of 1960. He participated in many activities at MTHS including three years in the Art Club, Varsity Debate, Speech Festival, and was assistant editor of the school paper, "The Obelisk."

After graduating from MTHS, Randy received a bachelor's of art degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where he was in the President Scholar Program. He and his wife then moved to New York so he could pursue a professional career in graphic design.

After suffering from Crone's Disease for some twenty years, Randy passed away at the age of 40 years old in Carbondale.

Survivors include his parents of Murphysboro; one brother, Michael Richmond of Kirkwood, Mo.; one sister, Susan Morris of Carbondale; two nieces; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Pettett Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery in Murphysboro.

Memorials may be made to the B.M.A. Kidney Center in Carbondale.
