Mr. Lonnie Arthur Kelley, son of the late Alonzo S. C. Kelley and the late Katie E. (Chapman) Kelley, was born in Birmingham, Alabama on October 28, 1922.

He accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in 1935 in Georgia. He relocated to Pittsburg, CA where he was baptized once again at the age of 60 years old by Pastor Henry L. Perkins and became a member of First Baptist Church.

He attended Graymont Elementary School and went on to graduate from A. H. Parker High School, both in Birmingham, AL. After high school in 1943, Lonnie enlisted in the United States Army during World War II where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. He received an honorable discharge in 1946. He went on to work for the United States Navy as a maintenance worker and was promoted to "Snapper" (first-line management). He then went to work for U.S. Steel where is worked for 37 years and held the position of supervisor and served as a union representative for the United Steelworkers of America CIO Local 1440. He retired from the mill in 1984.

Lonnie founded the first corporation in the City of Pittsburg and sold stock through the exchange. He also opened the first shoe store "Diamond City Shoe Salon." He then helped to start the first black-owned newspaper, "Acorn News" for which he served as editor and publisher.

Lonnie was blessed with one son, Robert L. Kelley and one daughter, Tanya L. Kelley Norrington. Lonnie departed this life on February 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Katie Kelley, and grandson, Robert Kelley, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his children: Robert (Dennell) and Tanya; grandchildren: Evan, Brooks, Avery and Kelley Michell Norrington, Delisheia, Lonnie, De'Ron, Adrienne Kelley, and Jinnat'e Grays; brother Melvin Cain, sisters: Rosa M. Baker and Brooksey Allen; uncle: William Kelley, Jr., niece, Maxine Jones; long-time friends: Thomas and Bertha Spears; and a host of other relatives, friends, and church family.
