WINAMAC -- John Binkley, 79, of Star City, died at 11:50 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in Pulaski Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 30, 1924, in Bourbon, he was the son of Henry M. and Margaret P. Beatty Binkley. He was married Dec. 26, 1945, in Winamac, to Julia Ann Knarr, who survives.
Following high school graduation at Bourbon, John attended Indiana University, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Seabees serving in World War II, stationed in Hawaii. He then attended G.I. Farm School at Pulaski and became a farmer until his retirement in 1987.
He was a 50-year member of the Winamac Masonic Lodge #262 and the Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend.
His hobby was amateur radio.
He was an organizer of the Pulaski-White Rural Telephone Corporation and served as its first treasurer. In 1959, he was appointed to the original Pulaski County School Reorganization Committee and was elected secretary. He later became the committee chairman.
Also surviving are one son, Steven F. Binkley and his wife, Ann, Pearcy, Ark.; one daughter, Barbara A. Neal and her husband, Dean,, Winamac; six grandchildren, Stanley Binkley, Paul Binkley, Cliffton John Binkley and his wife, Cindy, Ben Neal, Ellen L. Bishop and her husband, Shawn, and Alice Neal; and six great-grandchildren.
One son, 1st Lt. Stuart M. Binkley, preceded in death in Vietnam in 1971.
Burial will be in Pro Cemetery, Pulaski.
There will be no services or visitation.
