Mr. James Marshall “Buzz” Sawyer, 80, husband of Shirley Tyler Johnson Sawyer died Thursday, July 4, 2019 at his home after an extended illness.

Mr. Sawyer was born June 11, 1939 in Dillon County, a son of the late Jeter Delone “Tom” Sawyer and the late Elma Cooke Sawyer. He had retired from Dixianna Mills and was the owner and operator of Sawyer’s Garage. Mr. Sawyer was a member of Fork Baptist Church and Mullins First Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and an Usher.

Surviving Mr. Sawyer, in addition to his wife of the home are daughters, Lisa Sawyer Humphrey of Fork, Lisa Johnson Collins of Florence, Regina (Joe) Johnson of Florence and Rachel Johnson (Jamie) Suggs of Loris; two sisters, Betty Lou Hayes of Columbia and Phyllis Reaves of Dillon; three brothers, J.C. Sawyer of Fork, Robert “Buck” Sawyer of Cool Springs and Neil Sawyer of Fork; a granddaughter who resided with her grandfather and grandmother in the home; 7 other grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Mr. Sawyer was predeceased by his son, Arthur James Sawyer; two sisters, Frances Lewis and Mildred Hyatt; and two brothers, Thomas Sawyer and Gene Sawyer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at this Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Wilkes and Rev. Billy Brumbles officiating. Burial will follow in Mayers Memorial Park Cemetery.
