Joel Chamberlain was the son of John"Quail John" Chamberlain(1715-1802) & his 2nd wife, Susannah Hatch Green ( 1716-1794)- married January 7, 1751. John"Quail John" Chamberlain's 1st wife was Mehitable Fuller, daughter of Samuel Fuller of Hebron, CT. - married November 8, 1737.

Joel in 7/1775 enlisted into the Continental Militia under Capt. Abijah Rowley & also with Capt William Heaton's Company along with his brothers Lt. Abner & Benjamin and their father John Chamberlain, in the Strafford, Vermont alarm 7/20/1776. he was a minuteman & marched to the defense of Royalton & Newbury, Vermont. he also guarded droves of cattle in Thetford, VT.

From 1790-1800 he & his family were living in Thetford, VT. His family consisted of (3 males under 10 yrs., 1 male between 10-16 yrs., & one male 45 & up. Two females ages 10-16, & one female 26-45 yrs).

About Joel & his family moved to Stanstead County, Province of Quebec, Canada( Lower Canada then). About 1812 he moved his family again to Bloomfield, NY & then to Rushford, NY about 1814.

His wife Lavinia applied for his military pension in 1838 in Rushford.
