He was the son of Pennsylvania State Representative Harry Hannum Heyburn and his wife Margaret E. Darlington Heyburn. He was the husband of Dorothy Schmidt Heyburn, and they had two children. Weldon held the positions of Pennsylvania state auditor general 1949-1953 and then Pennsylvania state treasurer 1953-1957. He was also a candidate in the primary for U. S. Senator representing Pennsylvania in 1958. If he had won the office he would have been the second Senator Weldon Brinton Heyburn, the first one being his namesake second cousin once removed, a Senator who represented Idaho.
