Civil War Union Army Officer.

Graduate of USMA class July 1, 1855.

He began the Civil War as a Captain in the 4th United States Regular Cavalry, and was in command of a battalion that participated in the Battle of First Bull Run. When the Army of the Potomac was organized, he was tabbed to be an aide to Major General George McClellan, and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel of Volunteers. He then served as an aide on the staffs of Major Generals Samuel Curtis and John Schofield before dying in June 1863. On his gravestone he is listed as Major, which was his Regular Army brevet rank.
