Presidential Cabinet Secretary. He served as United States Secretary of Agriculture from 1940 to 1945. In this position, he was featured on the cover of "Time" magazine. From 1945 to 1953 he served as administrator of the Rural Electrification Administration, and in 1956 he made an unsuccessful run for the United States Senate. In 1967, he was killed in an automobile accident. The book, "Roosevelt's Farmer", by Dean Albertson was written about him.
