Son of Joseph W Gillette.
Enlisted in the Marine Corp. on March 17, 1907 he was one of four to be sent to the Marine Corp. Naval Yard in Washington D.C. for special training with the Navy.
He was a assigned to the new battleship USS Georgia BB15 that was commissioned Sept.24,1906 with a private ranking on June 7, 1907 stationed at Provincetown, Mass.. On July 18,1907 he was hospitalized for an unknown illness. On Sept,1907 he was still in the Marine barracks at the Naval Yard hospital in Boston, Mass. where he was discharged for a medical illness. His wife Nellie received a pension from the Civil War pension fund on June 18, 1912 after his death.
He married Nellie Olive Pugh, daughter of James B Pugh and Mary Catherine Suttles on Dec. 5, 1909 in Marion Co. ,Ohio.
