Born in Plumstead Township, he was the son of the late Edward and Pearl (Sames) Rice.
He was former president of Dublin Mill, former president of Souderton Mennonite Homes Board of Directors, former chairman of Franconia Conference Senior Fellowship Committee, former committee member Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, and former Pennsylvania DHIA director.
Mr. Rice was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Care & Share Thrift Store of Souderton and of Souderton Mennonite Homes.
Throughout his adult life, he was a member of Deep Run Mennonite Church East, serving as a former adult Sunday school teacher, superintendent, church council member, and as an elder. He went on a one week mission trip to Mexico.
His greatest joy was serving and helping others.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by his daughters, Lorraine Stutzman and her husband, Merle, of Blandon, Pa., Mary Ann Kulp and her husband, Larry, of Martinsburg, Pa., Marilyn Landis and her husband, Arlen, of Troy, Charlotte Myers and her husband Joseph, of Blooming Glen, Ruth Swartley and her husband, Steven, of Silverdale, Barbara Hackman and her husband, Daryl, of Hilltown, Donna Godshall and her husband, Philip, of Martinsburg, and Susan Hange and her husband, Neal, of Hilltown; and a son, David Rice and his wife, terry, of Williamsburg, Pa. He also is survived by his sisters, Eleanor Lear and her husband, John, of Gardenville, Dorothy Leatherman and her husband, Wilson, of Sellersville, and Alma Hockman and her husband, Walter, of Perkasie; his brothers, Franklin Rice and his wife, Ruth, of Hilltown and Linwood Rice and his wife, Doris, of Perkasie; 26 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Sunday, Oct., 26, 2003 in Deep Run Mennonite Church East; burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
