Juanita Vaver, 85, Longview, died Sept. 22, 1993, at St. John's Medical Center. She was born Feb. 6, 1908 in Lents, Ore., to Elijah and Merina (Hill) Adams.

She and her husband, James W. "Jim" Vaver were married in Vancouver in 1924, and moved to Longview from Portland 67 years ago. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Vaver was a past president of the American Legion Auxilary Unit 155, and sold so many poppies for the organization that she was known by many local residents as "The Poppy Lady."

She was a 64-year charter member of Salon 506 of the 40 et 8 and past Le Petit Chapeau; a member of the Cowlitz River Barracks Veterans of World War I and Buddies No. 129 in Kelso; and a charter member of the Ladies of Retired Longshoreman Local 21 in Longview.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Jimmy Vaver Jr.; her stepdaughter, Marion Vaver; eight brothers; and six sisters.

Survivors include a sister, Sarah Rowley of Portland; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Longview Memorial Park.
