Mrs. Mary DeWitt, age 87, of Spring Lake passed away Monday, July 12, 2021, at Heartwood Lodge. She was born October 25, 1933, in Grand Rapids to Ralph and Margaret (Werkman) Popma. On September 10, 1955, she married Howard DeWitt in Grand Rapids and he preceded her in death on October 23, 2007.

Mary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spring Lake. She worked as a greeter at Meijer for over 20 years and loved her job there. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and going to the casino. Mary also enjoyed square dancing with Howard. She will be greatly missed.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Shafer and Barbara Holmes both of Spring Lake; son-in-law, Michael Lyons of Ludington; four grandchildren: Paul A. Lyons, Bridgett Shafer, Ethan Holmes, and Alycia Holmes; one great-granddaughter, Claire LaHaie; She is also survived by her brother, Joe (Marlene) Popma and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two daughters: Gail Lyons and Margaret Mary; son-in-law, William Shafer; brothers Richard, Ed and Bob Popma; and sisters, Cheryl Morton and Doris Hepp.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Spring Lake Township Cemetery with Rev. David Gross officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of Mary may be given to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Please sign the family's online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
