F. Earl Riley

F. Earl Riley of Neodesha died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999 at the Wilson County Hospital. He was 84.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 13 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Carl Ellis officiating. Burial was in the Neodesha Cemetery under the direction of the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home.

The son of Robert F. and Nell (Martin) Riley, he was born March 10, 1914 at Coffeyville. He attended schools in Coffeyville, Valeda and Topeka, graduating from Neodesha High School. He also graduated from Coffeyville Junior College.

He was united in marriage to Geraldine Linvill on June 1, 1940 at Neodesha. The couple recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Riley served with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He worked for the W.J. Small Company and as an electrician for the Standard Oil Company of Indiana Refinery in Neodesha until it closed in 1971. He then operated an electrical contracting business for 15 years before retiring.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was named "Mr. Kansas Mason" in 1994. He was a member of numerous lodges and organizations, including Lodge # 94 A.F. & A.M. (60 year member and Past Master), Eastern Star of Independence (Pasts Patron), Ft. Scott Consistory, the Keystone Lodge of Independence, Shriners Lodge, the Red Cross of Constantine Lodge of Pittsburg and the Grand Commandry of Kansas. He was also a Royal Arch Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine, of the home; three sons, John of Prairie Village, Richard of Valley Falls and Mark of West Columbia, TX; three brothers, Leo of Oklahoma City, OK, Eugene of Independence and Wayne of Bella Vista, AR; two sisters, Lois Johnson of Tujunga, CA and Lucille Hall of Powhattan; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church.
