Veda Alberts, 92, of Ashkum, passed away Saturday morning (Feb. 23, 2013) at the Gilman Healthcare Center, following a short illness.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the 11 a.m. funeral service at the Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton.
Burial will be in Ashkum Cemetery. Memorials in her name may be made to the donor's choice.
Mrs. Alberts worked as a waitress for 60 years, most notably for the Coral Lounge in Gilman for 25 years and the Tri-K in Kankakee for nine years.
Veda was born April 3, 1920, near Ashkum, the daughter of Carl and Meta Sparenberg Peeken.
She married Eilt Alberts on Jan. 21, 1938, in Crown Point, Ind. He preceded her in death March 16, 1984.
She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ashkum. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially pies. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed planting trees.
Mrs. Alberts is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Linda Alberts, of Ashkum; three granddaughters, Lynne Jones, of Danforth, Terri Alberts and companion, Rigo Andrade, and Marla Seegmiller, all of Ashkum; three great-grandchildren, Ray Seegmiller, of Ashkum, and Samantha Bouk and Ryan Bouk, both of Danforth; and one sister-in-law, Thelma Peken, of Bradley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters and a grandson-in-law.
