Dan was a New Mexico native and Albuquerque resident for 59 years. He was born on July 15, 1913 at Kirtland, NM.
Dan had a long career as an Indian trader owning stores at Pinedale, Mariano Lake and Hunters Point on the Navajo reservation and at Dulce on the Jicarilla Apache reservation. He was very knowledgeable about pinon nuts and operated a large pinon business for over 30 years.
Dan made many life long friends among the Navajos and the Apaches. In 1953 he bought Gage's Boots and Saddles and changed the name to Dan's Boots and Saddles which is now in the third generation of family ownership.
He enjoyed many years working the family ranch in the Manzano Mountains and enjoyed fishing at Platoro, CO in the summer, fishing at Kino Bay, Mexico in the winter and fishing at Lake Powell in the spring and fall.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Katheryn; daughter, Dorothy Pullen and husband, Jim; sons, Allen and wife, Kay, Jay and wife, Carole, and Steve and wife, Penny; grandchildren, Allen and John Christensen, Sally Stock, Kathy Wild, Terry Trantham, Beverly Duncan, Barbara Harris, Karen Truelock, Larry Christensen, Dan, Kevin, Scott and Eric Christensen, and Lisa Guggino; 37 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mildred Corkum (Corky).
