Services were held Monday for Dr. Howard Pieper, 69, of 119 Luppatatong Ave., a prominent physician and one of the founders of the Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, who died there Thursday.
He was buried at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown.
Dr. Pieper, a pediatrician, opened his practice 43 years ago in Long Branch. He served as a Navy flight surgeon from 1940 through 1945 and was discharged with the rank of commander.
He resumed his practice in Keyport in 1946 and left in 1967 to become the director of student health at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa, where he remained until 1973.
Dr. Pieper returned to Monmouth County and practiced pediatrics and general medicine in Hazlet from 1973 to 1976.
He was a member of the American Medical Assn. and the New Jersey Medical Society, and was a past president of the Monmouth County Medical Society.
Surviving are his wife, the former Jean Ralston; two sons, Thomas of Matawan Borough, and Richard of Matawan Township; two step-sons, Richard Ralston of Toms River and Bruce Ralston at home; and a step-daughter, Mrs. Robin Crosby of Jackson, Mich.
