Jo Ann Rountree Asher, 78, Springfield, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008, after a prolonged illness.

Jo Ann was born February 19, 1930, to Dale and Zella Rountree. After graduating Stockton High School, she married Ray Fox and to this union five children were born.

In 1972, she married Ernie "Sonny" Asher and to this union a daughter was born.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Rowena Rountree; a grandson, Jesse Fox; and a son-in-law, Aaron Smith.

Jo Ann is survived by her children and their spouses, Alan and Carolyn Fox, Gatha Fox, Greg and Mary Fox, Steve and Lori Fox, Lisa Smith, and Melissa and Rob Buttry; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends.

During Jo Ann's life she worked as a waitress in various restaurants and pursued several business ventures such as Jo Ann's Chicken Hut in Stockton, Jo Ann's Country and Western Store in Crane, and Country Corner Store in Springfield.

In later years, she was a caregiver for the elderly. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ, most recently Jo Ann was a member in Fair Grove. One of the fondest memories of her children is the large family dinners she hosted where they enjoyed her excellent cooking. She'll also be remembered for her "coveted" homemade noodles. Jo Ann loved to travel prior to her health problems,and she loved collecting, especially her porcelain dolls.

A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m., in Fullington Cemetery, Cane Hill, Mo., with her son Alan Fox officiating.
