Dudley was the son of Chase and Cornelia Bridges. He first married Martha Cruthis in 1844. She died in 1848 in Bond Co, Illinois. They had no children.

Mr. BRIDGES was born in Vermont in September, 1816, a son of Chase and Cornelia BRIDGES, both of whom were born and reared in that State. When Dudley C. was a child his father moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he engaged in farming some twelve or thirteen years, and then moved to Clinton county, Ill. While living in Ohio Mrs. Cornelia BRIDGES died.

He then married Nancy Casey October 7,1848 in Bond, Co, Ill. and had 12 children which were born in WI.

The above information was published in 1901, while Dudley Bridges was alive to verify the correct name of his mother as being "Cornelia". At this time, her maiden name is unknown.
