Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday January 26, 2013 at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center.
Wednesday evening, January 23, 2013, our Heavenly Father reached out his hand and welcomed Edna to her heavenly home.
Edna Jeanette (Sleper) Balvance was born on February 6, 1920 to John E. and Etta (Rippentrop) Sleper. She was the fifth of seven children and graduated from Titonka High School in 1937.
Edna met Lawrence Balvance at a Sunday School picnic and they were married February 21, 1940 at the Ramsey Reformed Church. They were married for 64 years and blessed with three children: Beth, Larry and Jean.
Edna and Lawrence farmed in the Buffalo Center area for twenty years and later purchased the Hardware Store in town where Edna enjoyed fixing windows, mixing paint and waiting on customers. After retirement, she had more time to enjoy sewing, baking, embroidery and coffee parties.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Beth Ketterling (Rich) of St. Michael, MN; Jean Faber (Rick) of Omaha, NE; and daughter-in-law, Carol Balvance of Shakopee, MN. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Erna Sleper of Titonka.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters and 2 brothers, husband Lawrence, son Larry, grandson Scott and son-in-law David.
