Taylor King Pickett, M.D., 51, of Texas and Mississippi died on Sunday, April 10, 2011, along with his wife Laura Ballard Pickett, in McComb, Mississippi. A native of Mobile, Alabama, Dr. Pickett was a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, practicing in both Lufkin and Houston. He was an experienced private pilot and volunteered with Angel Flight. He was predeceased by his parents, Patricia Taylor Pickett and Charles King Pickett. Survivors include his four children, Elizabeth Riley Pickett and Hannah Taylor Pickett, both of Houston, Adalee Katherine Pickett and Smith King Pickett, both of Summit, Mississippi, and his sister, Eliska Pickett Morgan (Scott) of Mobile, Alabama, other relatives and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, April 14 at 11 a.m. at Five Rivers, 30945 Five Rivers Blvd., in Spanish Fort, Alabama. A local celebration of the lives of Dr. Taylor King Pickett and his wife, Laura, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, April 15, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel with Memorial Health Systems of East Texas Chaplain Billy Jackson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory be made to Angel Flight, 2000 Airport Road, Suite 227, Atlanta, Georgia 30341 or through their website, www.angelflightsoars.org.
