Carolyn Nelson Blaylock, 83, of Nyssa, OR, passed away Friday night, February 22, 2013 at a local hospital while surrounded by family members.
Carolyn was the 6th child born to Fred and Lovisa Nelson on March 30, 1929 in Brigham City, UT. She spent her childhood in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High School in 1947. She went on to attend college at Utah State University where she graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
While at Utah State she met Dean Blaylock at a dance and they were married on June 22, 1951 in the Logan Utah Temple.
Carolyn was a schoolteacher in Utah, California, and also a substitute for 25 years in the Treasure Valley. She and Dean moved to Nyssa in 1956 where they worked in agriculture until 1999. Carolyn also worked for the Head Start Program until 2001.
She faithfully served in many capacities throughout her entire life as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved genealogy, temple work, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.
Carolyn is survived by seven children and their spouses: Becky Clinton (Robert), of Germany, Alan Blaylock (Kathy), of Parker, CO, Scott Blaylock (Linda), of Emmett, ID, David Blaylock (Penny), of Ontario, OR, Roger Blaylock (Julie), of Parma, ID, Michael Blaylock (Kaylene), of Purcellville, VA, and Elizabeth Rodriguez (Juan), of Molalla, OR; her brother, Jerry (Patricia) Nelson; 27 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean; her parents; her sister and five brothers; and her great-grandson, Henry Parsons.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 11 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nyssa, OR with a viewing beforehand at 10 AM and the interment afterwards at Hilltop Memorial Cemetery in Nyssa. There will also be a viewing Wednesday evening at Lienkaemper Chapel in Nyssa from 6-8 PM.
