Elton B. Ingalls, 78, of 9492 Trenkle Road, Cuba died Monday evening (Aug. 18, 2003) at Olean General Hospital after a long illness.

Born Feb. 15, 1925, in Bolivar, he was a son of the late Virgil and Helen Wood Ingalls. In 1954, in Bolivar, he married the former Helen Farwell, who survives.

Mr. Ingalls was a graduate of Bolivar High School and served his country in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II in the Pacific Theater, including Guam. He became a New York State Police trooper in 1954, serving at the Belfast and Wellsville stations before retiring in 1975.

Mr. Ingalls was a member of the Retired New York State Troopers, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2721 and AMVETS Post 1, both of Cuba.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Max V. (Jeroldine) Ingalls of Cuba; a granddaughter, Regina Dennisol Cuba; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Sue Ingalls in 1968; two brothers, Maxwell Ingalls, who died in infancy, and James Ingalls; and a grandson, Max V. Ingalls II.

A private graveside ceremony was held Wednesday (Aug. 20, 2003) in Cuba Cemetery with the Rev. Larry A. Poelma of the First Baptist Church of Cuba officiating. The Mclntosh Funeral Home, Cuba, was in charge of arrangements
