Carole has enjoyed crocheting, baking, cooking, canning, sewing, bingo, garage sales, flea markets, treasure hunting, camping, and attending the sporting events of her grandchildren. Carole prided herself in finding unique values at the best price. Many of their day trips and yearly jaunts to Branson with her sister Joyce were the hot topics of conversation with family upon their return. Carole had a sense of humor which she exhibited frequently when playing pranks on brother Jewel. The three siblings have remained very close.
On June 14, 1986, Carole married Myron Lee Smith and became step-mother to Sondra Rae Smith, who preceded her in death, and Johnny Renee Smith Chambers of Independence, Mo.
Carole was employed at the Marine Corps Finance Center for twenty three years as a Lead Accounting Technician and also worked three years for the IRS. For several years she participated in the Women's Auxiliary through the Grandview, Mo. Lutheran church and was recognized many times for her tireless efforts. Through the Women's Auxiliary, Carole sewed and crocheted a large variety of items for the preemie babies and adults at Truman Medical Center and was recognized many times for her efforts. Carole was a member of the Methodist church in Henrietta, Mo.
Carole is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Matilda Isabel Ann Sanders and Ruben Benjamin Sanders, and paternal grandparents, Maggie Lee Winingham and Henry Oscar Winingham; parents, Charles Vincent Marmaduke Winingham and Susie Armenda (Sanders) Winingham; step-daughter Sondra Rae Smith; daughter, Sondra Jo (Folkes) Duncomb, and grandson William Gordon Smith.
Carole is survived by her husband of twenty five years, Myron Lee Smith; daughters, Tammy Sue Folkes of Altamont, Mo., and daughter and son-in-law, Susan Mirilda (Crawford) McGaugh and husband, James McGaugh, and step-daughter Johnnie Renee (Smith) Chambers and husband, Aaron Chambers; sister, Joyce Elaine (Winingham) Confer; brother and sister-in law, Jewel Vincent Winingham and wife, Susan (Roach) Winingham; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. The funeral service will be held at Bross & Spidle in Excelsior Springs, Mo., on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. Graveside service will be held immediately following the funeral at the Hill Crest Cemetery in Excelsior Springs, Mo.
