Born to James and Margaret Katherine (Von Glahn) Halliday. William was the second child of six (five sons and 1 daughter). Attended Kips Bay Boys camp in Queens during his youth.

Graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in Astoria, Queens, NY in 1934 at age 16. Went to work as a runner on Wall Street for Goldman Sachs.

Enrolled in the Army Corp of Engineers in September, 1940. Accepted into Army Air Corps two years later. Successfully completed air cadet training and served as a B-24 Liberator pilot. Honorably discharged August 1945 as a 2nd Lieutenant.

In the midst of military service, he married Virginia Ann Kennell June 1943 at Old St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco, CA. After completion of military service, William and Virginia initially settled in Alexandria, VA but a few years later moved to Long Island, NY where they settled down and raised 8 children.

TWA airline pilot for 32 years. Finished his career as a captain April 1978. Retired to Palm Beach County, FL in August, 1979.

Passed away peacefully at JFK Memorial Medical Center, Atlantis, FL in November, 2004.
