Mary Agnes Cangas, 73, 1423 35th Street, Fort Madison, died at 8:05 p.m., Tuesday Dec. 25, 2001 at Fort Madison Community Hospital, in Fort Madison.
She was born Sept. 13, 1928, at Fort Madison, the daughter of Lucio and Josefa Diaz Puga. She married Frank O. Cangas, Aug. 3, 1946 at Fort Madison. He preceded her in death Dec. 18, 1988.
She was retired from Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging. She also cooked at the LULAC Club and Newberry Center for 10 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and R.S.V.P. She was a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer.
She is survived by one son, Ray Cangas, Fort Madison; five daughters, Frances Padgham, Louisville, Colo., Gloria Cangas, Fort Madison, Rosalie Hendrix, Fort Madison and Rita Marshall and Melissa Payne, both of Denmark; 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; one brother, Henry Puga, Fort Madison; three sisters, Agnes Garcia, Fort Madison, Carmen Guzman, Burlington and Terry Pacheco, Laredo, Texas; one nephew she helped raise, Joe Cangas, Des Moines; one niece she helped raise, Joann Limas, Tinley Park, Ill; and a number of other nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one nephew.
Friends may call after 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 27, at King-Lynk Funeral Home, Fort Madison, where family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at Sacred Heart Church, with Rev. Thomas Parlette officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Fort Madison.
A memorial has been established and contributions may be left at King-Lynk Funeral Home.
