Ken graduated from Osage City High School. He met Leita A. Jones at a basketball game in Penalosa, Kan., and they married on May 5, 1940. They attended many basketball games together through their 69 years of marriage, supporting the Hutchinson Blue Dragons, until she preceded him in death April 30, 2009.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Reno County. He worked for Grede Foundry as a purchasing agent until his retirement. Always one to work hard and keep busy, Ken went to work part-time driving cars for Midwest Ford. His other part-time job/hobby was working on clocks. He was well-known for his clock expertise and had patrons come from miles around. He was also a member of the Central Kansas Gun Club. Shooting skeet was a passion, and at 89 years old, he was still breaking 21 of 25 clay pigeons on the range the gun club named "Ken Ewing Memorial Range" in his honor.
He is survived by: one son, two daughters, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gene, Robert and Earl; and a sister, June Mary.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Burial will be at Arlington Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson.
