Tommie C. Howard, 85, of Marietta, died February 21, 2013, surrounded by her family. Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church Marietta, with Rev. Erik Mays officiating. Interment followed at Mountain View Park Cemetery, Marietta.

Born and raised in Livingston and Columbia, South Carolina, Mrs. Howard worked at the Navy Yard during WWII. A graduate of University of South Carolina, Mrs. Howard worked as a Girl Scout Field Director. Her sense of adventure and fun led her to Officer Candidate School for the U.S. Air Force; throughout her life she regaled her family with tales of her service, and her pride in that service was immense. As a First Lieutenant she met and married her life's love, Doug Howard, while stationed at Lackland Air Force Base. During her life Mrs. Howard also engaged in the unusual occupation of raising rabbits commercially and for research, and was a successful realtor. She was a leader and pioneer in the Cobb County and Georgia Republican Parties beginning in 1963. Mrs. Howard served as an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1976 and was nominated to serve as Presidential Elector in 1992.

Her primary love and focus in her life was her family. She cherished each of her daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and instilled in each of us that same deep love of family. She is survived by daughters Melodie Clayton, Candie Howard and husband Bill Morrison, Pam Johnson and husband Al, all of Marietta, and Jan Gay and husband Eric of Douglasville; grandchildren Carter and Lauren Clayton, Lee and Hastings Clayton, Susan Fidler, Retta and Richie Sola, Leah Franklin, Emerson Franklin, Alyanna Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Garrett Johnson, Shondra and Jeff Pruitt, McKinley and Laura Johnson, Rosemary Gay, Will Gay, and Laine Gay; great-grandchildren Reilly, Corbett, Zach, Ginny, and Charlie; and nephew Mike and Sharon Walling of South Carolina. We will miss Maymom's funny sense of humor, sassiness, divine appearance and love.
