Tempie Bass Lewis, 75 passed away peacefully at the home of her sister Tuesday, February 19, 2013. She was surrounded by her family and friends as she passed into eternity. Tempie was born in Nash County on March 8, 1937. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Lewis; her father, Simon Bass; mother, Annie Parker Bass; three brothers, Luther Perry Bass, Simon K. Bass, and Hubert Parker and a brother in law, Joe Turner.
Tempie loved life, her family and friends, and good gospel music. In her younger years, Tempie was an active church member and enjoyed singing in and around the community with a gospel group.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Becky Joyner of Castalia; two granddaughters, Renee Mitchell (William) and Melissa Joyner of Castalia; three brothers, R.L. Bass of Nashville, Joe Bass (Shirley) of Spring Hope, and Sam Bass (Ruth) of Ontario, Canada; four sisters, Mildred Wester of Rocky Mount, Lucille Boykin of Lewisville, Frances Shearin (Larry) and Judy Turner of Rocky Mount; one special nephew, Kevin McGee (Amanda) of Greenville, and several other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Oakdale Cemetery, Spring Hope with Larry Shearin officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Funeral Home.
