Dorothy J. Black, 85, of Versailles passed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was born in the Cedar Creek community near Osgood on May 24, 1927 the daughter of Arthur and Clara Diem Jahnigen. She was married to Roy Black on October 19, 1947 and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1977. Survivors include one son Roger (Trish) Black of Westfield; three daughters Jo Ann (John) Santen of Cleves, Ohio, Judy (John) Sides of Versailles, and Nancy (Al) Waldbillig of Cincinnati; her son-in-law Richard Hansen of Holton; 9 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother Jerald "Butch" (Helen) Jahnigen of Osgood; one sister Jeraldine Humphrey of Osgood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Rita Hansen, her brothers Clem Jahnigen and Herman Jahnigen, and her sister Virginia Lowe. Mrs. Black was a 1945 graduate of Versailles High School. She assisted her husband in farming, was a homemaker and enjoyed quilting. Dorothy was a member of the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 25th at 11am at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. David Shivers of the Hopewell Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles. Visitation will be Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. Memorials may be given to the Versailles American Legion Auxiliary or the Cliff Hill Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
