Land for Mt. Moriah Church and Cemetery was given by Richard Whitmire and his wife, Judith Jordan Whitmire. The first burial was Dec. 6, 1876.
It is also documented that the date on Richard's father, Christopher Whitmire's second gravestone now on his grave, claims in error the he was born in 1794; he was born Dec. 24, 1774. That is made clear when reading the birth dates of his children.
