GLOUCESTER - Douglas 'Eugene' Crabtree Jr., 42, died Wednesday, April 9, 2008. He was born in Hampton, Va., and was a well known banjo player, having played in many bluegrass bands throughout the country and was currently playing with the James King Band. He attended Abingdon Episcopal Church and was a volunteer for the 4H Club.
He is survived by his wife, Hannah L. Crabtree; two daughters, Kalelyn Elizabeth Crabtree and Jessica Crabtree Hodges and her husband, Gerrid, and their son, Jacob Owen Lee Hodges, all of Gloucester; his parents, Linda Ann Crabtree of Gloucester and Douglas E. Crabtree Sr. of Amelia, Va.; and his brother, Jeffrey Lee Crabtree of Gloucester. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Benny and Bessie Crabtree and Robert and Virginia Dudley.
Funeral services was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the chapel of Andrews Funeral Home by Dr. Geoff Price. Burial was in Abingdon Episcopal Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.Andrews Funeral Home, Gloucester, Va., is in charge of arrangements.(Ref: Daily Press from April 11 to April 12, 2008)
