Sampson Cole was the son of David Mason Cole and Remember or
Remembrance Woolsey. On 26 January 1836, Smyth County, VA., he married Eliza Cole, the daughter of James Cole and Dorcas McClure. Samson and Eliza had 11 children: James McDonald, Remember Ann, Freelove, Almeda America, Dorcas Emily, David, Joseph, Marcelle Adeline, Charles E.B., Thomas H.C., and Robert Lee Cole. Sampson and Eliza appear in the 1850-60-70 Smyth Co., VA census.
