Thomas was the son of Thomas of New Jersey and Mary Richmond "Molly" Brace of Tolland, Connecticut. He married 1st Sarah Jane Craig on February 10, 1810 in Greenbrier Co, VA. From this union were born five known children: Nancy Payne, Mary "Polly" Evans, Minerva Evan-Wisdom-Baker and William. He married 2nd Anne Funk on January 25, 1820 in Greenbrier Co, VA (now WV). From this union were born two known children: Sarah Ann Anderson and Cyrus Richard.

It is believed that Thomas died in Gallia Co, Ohio while visiting there.
