Funeral services for Charlotte M. Welch, 94 of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis, IL. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30. Mrs. Welch died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, IA.

Charlotte was born November 1, 1918 in Rock Island, Illinois, daughter of Herman Bredar and Elizabeth (Boden) Bredar. She graduated from the former St. Joseph's High School in Rock Island, Illinois.

Following high school she graduated from St. Anthony's Hospital School of Nursing, and was a registered nurse. She retired as an Industrial Nurse from John Deere Plow & Planter Works in 1981. She was a member of the "Tony Group".

Charlotte married Cornelius (Nick) Welch in 1941. He died in December 14, 1991. They were members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Silvis, Illinois, where she was a member of the Altar Society. She was most proud of the fact that they had four wonderful children, that all remained in this area, which enabled her to remain an important part of their lives.

She was a "life" member of Oakwood Country Club, and had the privilege of having 3 hole-in-ones. She played golf into her 90's, a feat that made her very proud, and had just passed her driver's test in October of 2012. Although she dearly loved golf, she also enjoyed playing bridge, as well as knitting and crocheting baby afghans and baby booties for her family and friends.

She is survived by her four children; James (Janice) Welch, Thomas (Flo) Welch, Donald (Mary Joyce) Welch, and Patricia (Graham) Lee. There are 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She has a surviving brother, Herman (Norma) Bredar, and two sisters, Mauritia Theus and Antoinette Mangold. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, Nick, sister, Mary Agnes O'Malley, and brothers, Bernard, Vincent, and Robert Bredar.

The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Charlotte's grandson, Clayton Lee and his wife, Lindsay, who embodied the true meaning of Christian good works. Clayton and Lindsay not only opened their hearts but also their home for the last four months, so Charlotte was able to have a safe, loving and compassionate place to call her home. This young couple not only "talked the talk", but "walked the walk", and their acts of devotion and care provided to Charlotte will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
