--A graduate of Central High School, he earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Strayer College. His first job was with the U.S. General Accounting Office in Washington, DC.
--World War II Veteran; U.S. Army
--Returning to Charlotte in 1947, he earned his CPA license & went to work in the corporate tax dept. of Haskins & Sells, now known as Deloitte & Touche. He eventually made partner and retired in 1982.
--Charter member of Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served on the finance committee and was communion steward for 25 years.
--Member & past president of Charlotte Civitan Club.
--He married Betty Johnson, who predeceased him. They had 3 children: Deborah, William F., and James O. Funderburk, Jr. 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren.
