Reverend Edmond Franklin Harris, age 89 of Gainesville, went home to be with our Lord early Thursday Morning, February 21, 2013 at Ronnie Green Heart Center of Northeast Georgia Medical Center due to complications of Lung Cancer.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Scott Waters will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 6 – 9 pm and Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 9 pm at the funeral home.

Reverend Harris was born August 17, 1923 in Athens, Georgia to the late John Jepthy Harris and Dora Pirkle Harris. He was a graduate of the old Main Street School and Mercer University. Reverend Harris previously served in the Gainesville-Hall County Ministerial Association, Masons, on the Clergy Staff at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, as well as in various positions of the Chattahoochee Baptist Association, Southern Baptist Convention and Adult Sunday School Teacher. He was instrumental in starting Camp Hope in Hall County, served in the U.S. Army and pastored Athens Road Baptist Church before being called to Victory Baptist Church in Gainesville, where he served for 35 years as Pastor. Reverend Harris currently served as Pastor Emeritus and Bible Study Teacher. He married and baptized many people over the years and presided at numerous funerals while serving his community and church. Reverend Harris was a loving father, PaPa and Christian man, loved by many people and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He led by example while showing us how to live each day. He enjoyed fellowship around the table, playing golf, hunting, walking, fishing and camping with his family. Reverend Harris was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Myrtis Sullens Harris, his sons, Thomas Edmond Harris, Travis Douglas Harris and Phillip Wayne Harris, his grandson, Michael Harris and his great-granddaughter, Ashley Elizabeth Harris.

Reverend Harris is survived by his daughters & sons-in-law, Roseann & Steve Burgess of Gainesville, Diann & Don Sawtell of Braselton and Joann & Johnny Cooper of Clermont, daughter-in-law, Judy Harris of Cleveland, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and many nephews, nieces and other family as well as his church family and a multitude of friends.
