AGNES BERNICE CALKINS was born in Custer County, Idaho at Robinson Bar on September 24, 1890. She is the eighth and youngest child born to Francena Martha Wells and Stephen Crawford Calkins.
Agnes married William Byron Hahn on March 24, 1910 in Weiser, Idaho.
Agnes' autobiography "Over a Span of Years" has been enjoyed and appreciated by many. Agnes tells of her childhood in Idaho, her mother, Francena and father, Stephen Calkins, her siblings, her marriage to Will, the birth of their children and their lives on the farm in Council, Idaho She writes, "Will was 21 years old in December of 1908, and in April, 1909, he filed on 160 acres of land which joined his father's land on the north. This land lay in the form of an L; most of the land was rolling foothills but a draw ran east and west and the west end of the land was practically free from brush and here was where our house stood. Later Will built a good barn south of the house. Our house had originally been on a piece of land Father Hahn had purchased and the family had lived in it until a larger house was built. When Will took up his homestead they moved the smaller house on to it." Agnes and Will lived here on their farm in Council Valley for a dozen or so years until it became necessary to sell. They moved to Nampa where Will worked as a mechanic.
Agnes and Will Hahn had four children: Ruby Helen Hahn, 1911; Hallie Calkins Hahn, 1914; Frank Harold Hahn, 1920; Gladys Ellen Hahn, 1922.
William Byron Hahn was born in Deer Lodge, Montana on Dec. 24, 1888 and died on June 26, 1960, age 71 in Caldwell.
Agnes Bernice Calkins Hahn died twenty years later at age 90, on September 30, 1980 in Nampa, Idaho. They are both buried in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell, Idaho.
