Silver Springs lost one of its older residents Friday with the death of Mrs. Mary Dalton Baker, 92, who died at the Castile Sanitarium where she had resided several years. She was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Dalton, coming from Syracuse 74 years ago to the Bradley Settlement near Warsaw. She worked at the Bradley Salt Company and later at the Worcester Salt Plant in Silver Springs.
She was twice wed, her first marriage to Walter William Nugent who died in January 1901. Of this union were born three sons, Walter and William Nugent of Silver Springs, George Nugent of Lockport, Illinois; two daughters, Mrs. Matie Carney of Silver Springs and Mrs. Nellie Mullen who passed away a couple years ago.
She was united in marriage to James F. Baker in Warsaw, he died August 26, 1957. They had one son, James Baker who was killed in an automobile accident in 1930.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church and an honorary member of the Altar-Rosary Society.
Surviving are Matie Carney, William, Walter, and George Nugent; 22 grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and some great-great-grandchildren. The body was brought to Weeks Funeral Home in Silver Springs Wednesday. The Rosary was recited Sunday with Rev. James J. Reddington, pastor, officiating at prayers followed by a Requim Mass and burial in the church cemetery.
