The Cherokee Courier, 12 September 1923, page 2: The community was grieved to hear of the death of Jacob Powell, who resided in Canada. Mr. Powell was a former resident of Grand Meadow, and was well liked by all. The body was shipped here for burial Sunday in the Grand Meadow cemetery. He leaves to mourn his loss, five children, besides a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jud McQueen, with Rev. Brauck, officiating. The relatives from a distance were Mrs. Mattie Warnick of Canada, Lious Keck of Sioux City and Mr. Culkin of Cushing.
