Montrose Press, Montrose, CO; Friday, April 2, 2010:
Gordon L. Saville, a 45 year resident of Montrose, passed away Sunday March 28, 2010, at his home in Sunrise Creek. Gordon was born April 21, 1923 in Hartford N.Y. to Frank and Phoebe (Stewart) Saville. Gordon grew up in Hudson Falls, N.Y. and as a boy, he dreamed of becoming a pilot. He worked on a nearby farm to earn and save money for flying lessons. Gordon soloed his first flight in 1939 at 16 years of age and went on to serve his country in World War II in the United States Army. Gordon married his first wife and had two sons and three daughters. Gordon moved to Montrose, became a pilot with the Division of Wildlife in 1965 and married his second wife, Lena Saville, in 1969. Gordon remained with the Division of Wildlife until his retirement in 1988; after logging over 20,000 hours of flying. Gordon loved his job, which consisted of flying his Cessna 185 to count elk and other wildlife. He also used his airplane to plant fish in the beautiful Colorado mountain lakes and was called upon to assist law enforcement with numerous search and rescue situations. Gordon was inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame on Dec. 1, 1985. He was an active member of the Montrose Elks and American Legion. During retirement, he loved to share his stories with family and friends about his exciting and meaningful career as a pilot. He also enjoyed playing cards and calling bingo at Sunrise Creek.

Gordon is survived by his son, Dwight Saville and wife Valinda of Oak Harbor, Wash. and their children, Cheryl, Jennifer, Summer and Jessica; his son, Kirk Saville and wife Donna of Highlands Ranch, Colo. and Kirks daughter, Kelly Jo; his daughter, Patricia Meyer of Aurora, Colo. and her children, Darren, Calea and Brooke; his daughter, Pamela Geyer and husband Chris of Centennial, Colo. and their children, Rebecca, Daniel and Steven; his daughter, Rhonda Saville of Las Vegas, Nev. and her children, Jordon and Melanie; his step-daughter, Sharon Huffman and husband Eric of Williston, Fla. and Sharons daughter, Kory and husband Miles; his step-son, David Krill and wife Judy of Thornton, Colo. and their children, Kelli, Mandi and Jennifer; and his sister, Majel Winchell of Hudson Falls, N.Y. Gordon had 17 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Montrose Christian Church, with Pastor Paul Nystrom officiating. At Gordons request, cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, in memory of Gordon Saville, P.O. Box 1804, Montrose, CO 81402.
