STANLEY ALTON COURTNEY, age 72, Cynthiana, died Friday, February 15, 2013 at Harrison Memorial Hospital. Born February 24, 1940 in Harrison County to the late Everett and Mary Belle Courtney, he was a farmer and carpenter. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and a grandson, Michael Dalton Phillips.
He is survived by his wife, Mable Vance Courtney; a son, Stanley Alton (Carrie) Courtney, Jr., Florida; a daughter, Stephanie Courtney Phillips, Cynthiana; a sister, Carol Sosbe; a grandson, Jon Devin Phillips and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Friday at Pleasant Green Baptist Church by Bro. Mitch Farthing. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home and 12:00 P.M. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Courtney Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pleasant Green Baptist Church Building Fund.
Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Franklin, Lane Franklin, Gary Fuller, Richard Kendall, Ray Singer and Chris Hawks. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Wiggins, David Mitchell, Larry McNees, Timmy McNees, Roy Everett Lee, Vic Wagenschein and Dr. Frank McKemie.
