James Alexander Attaway was born April 11, 1872 in Tennessee. His parents were William Robert Attaway and Elvira Preslar. He married a woman named Sarah and they had seven children. Her surname is not known, but she must have died about 1902. Soon after her death he left for Texas and in 1908 he married Maude Watterson in Coleman, Texas. They had seven children then Maude died about 1925 leaving him with the children. He did not marry again. He died in 1951 in Athens Texas and according to funeral home records was buried in the New Chatfield Cemetery in Navarro County, Texas. No marker or other grave site information has been found. Maude was also buried in that cemetery but in the old section according to family information. It is not known why they chose this cemetery since they lived in Henderson County Texas most of their married life and had no connection to Navarro County.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Memory Chapel for James Alexander Attaway, 79, retired Athens farmer who died Monday at 3:45 p.m.
The rites were conducted by Rev. D.H. Bonner. Interment was in Chatfield Cemetery.
A native of Tennessee, Mr. Attaway had lived here for the last 40 years.
He is survived by four sons, three daughters and 16 grandchildren.
