Ceylon Prime Minister. He served as the Prime Minister of Ceylon (later Sri Lanka), from 1956 to 1959. After studying to become a lawyer in England, he became involved in politics and helped to establish the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and the Sinhala Maha Sabha in 1937, a movement to promote Sinhalese culture and community interests. He was assassinated by a dissident buddhist monk in 1959.
