James W. Lewis (Jim) 86, of Hayward/Livermore passed away on June 24, 2011. Jim was born August 17, 1924 in Byron California. The son of Walter and Anna Lewis of Byron California. He attended Liberty High School and upon his graduation immediately enlisted in the Army serving in WWII including a deployment to Iwo Jima. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for Alameda County, Local 3. He was married to Mary Bordes-Lewis in 1947 who proceeded him in death in 1982 and to his current wife Maxine Mays-Lewis for 28 years. Jim was an avid golfer, fisherman and gardener that never tired of these activities. He believed in strong family values enjoying spending time with family and close friends. Jim will be missed by his wife Maxine, son Jim Lewis, daughter-in-law Debbie Lewis, grandchildren Chris Lewis, Mike Lewis, Jason Vanderford, Jade Vanderford, Summer Carmack as well as his great grandchildren. A wake will be held on June 30, 2011 from 4:30 - 9:00 at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544. Interment service will be on July 1, 2011 at 11:00, Roselawn Cemetery 1240 N. Livermore Ave. Livermore, CA 94550.
