A. C. Schwab Dies of Sudden Attack
Arthur C. Schwab of 2149 North Cape Rock, died suddenly at 10:30 a.m. Sunday of a heart attack while at the Swan Pond Gun Club property south of Advance of which he was a member.
Mr. Schwab and his son, John, had gone there during the morning to dig a duck hunting pit, to be used later. They had gone there about 8:30 a.m. They were joined by Jack Hoffman of Cape Girardeau and Ollie Kirkpatrick of Commerce.
When Mr. Schwab became ill, a doctor was called from Advance. The body was brought to Cape Girardeau in a Morgan ambulance from Advance, and is at the Brinkopf-Howell Funeral Home.
Mr. Schwab, 54 years old, was known to his friends as "Hatz." He was born 19 September 1903 at Gordonville, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schwab. He attended the Lutheran School at Gordonville and State College here. For three years he taught school in the Whitewater community. Thirty-five years ago, he came to Cape Girardeau and was associated with the Peoples Oil Company. In 1940 he and his brother Ted formed a partnership and were general agents for the Cities Service Oil Company in four counties. Their location has been at the corner of Broadway and Pacific for 35 years.
Mr. Schwab was first married to Nellie Stroder and she died in 1943. In 1946 he married Barbara Jarosik. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, John and Jerry at home; two brothers, Ted Schwab of Cape and Leo Schwab of Bertrand; two sisters, Mrs. August Siemers and Mrs. Edgar Stehr of Cape. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Mr. Schwab was a member of the Lions Club, Trinity Lutheran Church and Swan Pond Club. He was a sportsman for many years.
Services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Trinity Church by the pastor, Rev. Ralph Fessler. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be removed to the church at noon Tuesday from Brinkopf-Howell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Bill Hollenbeck, Tinsley Mulkey, Harold Locke, Jack Hoffman, Charles M. Cofer and Dr. William Seabaugh.
