Sir Stephen Lushington, a Judge and Member of Parliament, who campained for the abolition of slavery and of the death penalty. He supported the lifting of restrictions on Jews and Roman Catholics. His family had links with the pre-Raphaelite art movement, notably with Arthur Hughes. Do not confuse with another Stephen Lushington, buried at Croydon. This mistake has been made by that local authority.
