John volunteered for Civil War army service in Company C, 103rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, January 4, 1865, at Cleveland, Ohio for a term of one year. Occupation: Cigar maker. He transferred to Company H, 183rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry to complete his term of service and was mustered out July 17, 1865 at Raleigh, North Carolina. His name is on Panel #13 in the Cuyahoga county Soldiers' and Sailors', Public Square, Cleveland, Ohio.
