Peter Barb and family left Trumbull Co. Ohio in the spring of 1835 and travelled via flatboat on the Beaver, Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to La Harpe, Hancock Co., Ill., and then to Lee Co., Ia., in 1836.

Peter Barbe lived on this farm the rest of his life; is buried on the southwest corner of the place. He picked this spot years before his death & had a daughter Annette Victoria buried there. The cedar trees on this sacred ground were planted by his devoted daugther Candace.
